Anara was raised in the militaristic culture of Mandalorians from birth, but she never quite fit in. She wasn’t the most physically imposing specimen, instead relying on her cunning and quickness to get her way. This went against the typical Mandalorian pride in honorable combat, and frequently earned her the disrespect of her fellow comrades. She fought many duels, and when she won it tended to be using cunning and trickery rather than pure might. For her first real battle in the war, she was sent to the front and intentionally put in way over her head, her fellows hoping she would die in battle. She nearly did.
An explosive took out most of the top left half of her body. It blew out her arm, half of her skull, and much of her torso. The wounds appeared fatal, but somehow she clung to life. After the battle, she was “saved” by a scavenger who was attempting to strip her from her armor. To their surprise, she still had the strength of will to try and swing on them with her good arm out of nothing more than reflex. They decided to haul her off body and all to see if they could get paid for selling her into slavery.
She was told to the Hutt Cartel, and they paid for her cybernetics that would allow her to be of use to them. Much of her memory was lost from the damage to her brain, but thankfully she could remember the basics of combat. Once she had recovered the Cartel made use of her as hired muscle. They told her that she needed to pay off the debt for saving her life, and doing so would likely take a very long time. She obliged, doing a few jobs for them “encouraging” people to pay off debts. Eventually, she overheard a conversation and learned that there was of course no way she would ever pay her debt off. The Cartel planned on keeping her in debt forever, making her work for them until she died.
Anara used every bit of resourcefulness she had to stowaway on a transport ship leaving Nal Hutta, not really caring where she wound up. That ship wound up on a station around Viscara, and she made her exit there and set out to try to blend in. Now she’s simply trying to train, make credits, and somehow build a life out of nothing. She’s known to be a bit snarky, sarcastic, and flighty about things, but at her core she is a survivor. Her first priority is making sure she gets out alive.
