What the hell were you thinking? Cato thought to himself as he laid out the contents of a medkit on the table before setting to work treating the burn on his forearm Stealing from Mandalorians? Deathwish, much?
Still, close calls aside, he’d gotten the job done and gotten out, only marginally worse for wear, so that was a win in his book.
Just then, the chime of the holocom rang out through the small, dingy apartment. Thinking it might be the client from his most recent job, or someone calling with another opportunity, Cato hit the button. Instead of the aforementioned, he was met with the visage of a familiar Cathar…
“Hello, my friend. You’re a tricky one to get a hold of” Usyn Ko said, a smile on his face
“Yeah, well…that’s out of necessity.” Cato replied “That stunt I pulled on the Night Star didn’t exactly win me any friends…even if I did what I did for the right reasons”
“Hmm” Usyn Ko mused “That is…how you say… understandable”
The conversation went on for a few hours, with both sharing tales of their exploits since they’d last spoken months ago, and for Cato, it was like being back on the Night Star on their plodding trip to Dantooine. It felt like the first time he’d really been able to relax since landing on Viscara, and it was nice. In the course of the conversation, Cato had learned that Usyn Ko was currently attached to a unit of Republic commandos, going after some Sith target or another.
“Still on that sneaky spy stuff, eh” Cato said with a chuckle
“Of course” Usyn Ko replied “I go where I am needed”
“Just…be careful” Cato said “I won’t be able to be there to pull your hide out of the fire I things go sideways again”
“I will do my best, and I will trust in the Force to guide me, as should you” Usyn Ko responded reassuringly
Just then, Usyn Ko turned his head, as if being spoken to from someone outside the holocom’s field of view.
“I must go. They tell me we are landing soon” he said “It was good talking to you again… though I wish you would reconsider joining the Order. Talents like yours could do a lot of good”
“You and I both know that isn’t likely to happen” Cato sighed “Even if they would accept me, I’m not one for the kind of rules and structure your order has”
“I know” Usyn Ko replied “But I can still hope. May the Force be with you”
With that, the holocom fell dark as the call disconnected. Cato couldn’t help but smile a bit. It was nice to know that, after everything, he still had at least one friend left in the galaxy.
