"THE POISONER’S TASKBOOK"

This book is banned in Republic space, but popular in black markets. Owning it is seen as a mark of prestige in some circles.

In it, the anonymous author describes how to brew or synthesize poisons using both household items and rare herbs, and even describes some more esoteric methods popular with assassins. How the author got access to this information, no one knows. There is some speculation that they, themselves, are a master assassin.

One popular section details the use of poison jars. Poison jars are created using a closed terrarrium of some kind, often a ceramic jar, and stocking it with a wide variety of venomous creatures. With no real sources of food available, the creatures are forced to eat each other, even resorting to cannibalization, in order to survive. It is said that when only one living thing remains in the jar, the poison extracted from it will be among the most potent in the galaxy.

Another deals with the use of psychedelic drugs to create non-lethal disruptions. The example given is a story of how a thief stole 30,000 credits worth of jewelry from a dinner party by introducing mushroom extract into the estate’s water recycler. This account is likely anecdotal, as no evidence that such a crime occurred has ever been made public.
