CHIEF PETTY OFFICER DRINNA DARAND

Race: Miraluka

Age: 24

Enlisted: 5 years ago

Home planet: Alpheridies

Skillset: Piloting (specialised in starfighters and all-terrain-space hybrid vehicles).

Background check: Five instances of disturbance of peace. No major criminal record

Service Record: Tycho Ground Assault Unit (Outer Rim), , Starbird Squadron (Starbird 11), Tango Squadron (Tango 6), APHELION, RNS Promise (Wingleader), Banshee Squadron (Banshee 1 - current)

Commendations: Two notations for bravery, commendation for distinctive meritorious achievement in the field of space combat - see APHELION.

Notes:

  • Participant of the Project APHELION, and the join intiative between APHELION AND ACCESS DENIED. REASON: Insufficient clearance.

  • Confirmed Force Sensitive. Darand was discharged from the Alpheridies Jedi Academy. Details on the expulsion are muddy, but there’s a mention of Darand undergoing Seer training. ADDITONAL NOTES: Pending further investigation.

  • Three letters of reprimand - two for reckless conduct on the battlefield CLARIFICATION: Removed, one for disobedience CLARIFICATION: Removed after an internal investigation.

  • Recruited into APHELION personally by the Engineer Officer Fillins Vruk ADDITIONAL NOTES: See - Personnel Interview #78432, section 4a.

Records indicate two surviving relatives, grandfather Jove Darand and mother, Kyly Darand. No information on the father.

Jove Darand was the leader of the local resistance cell, created in the aftermath of Battle of the Abron system and subsequent conquering of Alpheridies by Mandalorian Crusaders. He’s been instrumental in helping to set up the Republic presence after Mandalorians were driven away. His current status is unknown, though it’s likely the Empire would seek to either eliminate or recruit him, considering Darand’s importance as the local war hero and member of the Council.

Kyly Darand is a mid-level administrator at the Culu Memorial Center. Her status is, likewise, unknown.

General assessment: Darand is loyal to the Republic, but difficult to manage. Tendency to disregard orders to follow her own instincts. Not much chance for any real career on the upper echelons, but CPO definitely can fly. Reports shared by the Engineer Officer Fillins Vruk, show substantial affinity for operating both starfighting vessels and armored walkers.

Recommendation: Allow for active service, but observe. APHELION higher-ups requested regular updates on Darand’s status.

PROJECT APHELION

Project Status: Ongoing

Established by Engineer Officer Fillins Vruk, APHELION had one purpose - to close the gap between the Mandalorians and the Republic in terms of the hybrid air-to-ground warfare. Following the Battle of Vanquo and Siege of Taris, Republic Military became increasingly desperate for safeguards against Basilisk Droids, which have proven terrifyingly effective in battle not only against troops, but also starfighters, and warships.

Fillins Vruk, a talented engineer from Mon Cala, designed a number of All Terrain Armored Transports and Walkers inspired by the number of captured Basilisks, and began selecting the most promising pilots, whom he believed could operate such machines effectively.

At first, APEHLION saw some middling success, and even began a merge with REDACTED , in hopes of combining the modified walkers with REDACTED for greater combat effectiveness, but it soon became apparent that the costs of the merge greatly exceeded its benefits. The joint project was cancelled, and many expected this to be the end of APHELION. However, in his desperation to keep the project going, Vruk managed to uncover an interesting report pertaining to one of the pilots signed up with the project, Private Darand.

Darand’s scores outclassed those of fellow participants, even though she had no extensive training prior to APHELION. It soon became apparent why - Darand was a Force Sensitive, with a unique inclination towards instinctive astrogation. This ability combined with the past training as a Seer, gave her an edge in combat - something the Navy needed at that time and possibly would in the future.

The focus of APHELION shifted - with Darand as its sole subject, Vruk was able to collect valuable data, which would be used to train a new generation of pilots, who were destined to conquer land, water, sky and space.

RECORDING RECOVERED BY THE ADMINISTRATORS OF THE CULU MEMORIAL CENTER OF ALPHERIDIES.

AUTHOR: JEDI MASTER EMONA VALKARI

SUBJECT: THE FUTURE OF PADAWAN DRINNA DARAND

As the recording is played back, a holographic image of a tall Miraluka woman appears. Her age could be judged to be somewhere in the late sixties. Despite specks of white in her tightly coiled hair and wrinkles on the dark skin, Jedi’s entire posture radiated health.

Padawan Darand’s progress is satisfactory, though the same cannot be said of her behaviour. In the years she came to be under my tutelage, I saw no sign of improvement - only the vicious circle of anger and regret.

There is a pause, as the Master considers the next words. Her hand lifts to adjust the decorative weil draped over where the eyes would be.

It’s rare for myself to be at a loss for solutions. Padawan Darand continues to rebel against my orders, and it’s not escaping the notice of the Council. Perhaps if…

Another pause. The woman’s brows draw together in a deep frown.

… it could be that she senses him. She knows her father is here, and his refusal to acknowledge her likely serves to only make her lash out more and more.

Valkari rubs the skin behind her veil.

It’s time to face the facts - we cannot make Drinna Darand into a Jedi. No matter how talented she is or who her family is. There is too much… aggression within this child, and while it could be dealt with, the underlying fear cannot be conquered as easily - mostly because Padawan Darand refuses to acknowledge it.

The Master exhales heavily, her chin lifting. Though some seems to seep into her tone, there is no hesitation on her features.

As Padawan Darand’s master, I am making a decision of her expulsion from the ranks of the Order. Perhaps she could still find a place among the laity, but I doubt something like this would even satisfy her.

Valkari bites her lip.

… I’m sorry, Jove.
