There wasn’t much to Elyd in her early life, being from some backwater that even the locals didn’t bother to give a proper name to. It was simply “Home” to them, despite it being the hazardous jungle world it is. At the ripe age of eighteen a Republic recruitment ship made its way to her home - and desperate for something more than the world of nothing they’d come to know - Elyd and a number of her young peers signed on.
A promising recruit in basic training, Elyd passed all her physical tests with flying colors. Her instructors had high hopes for her and had her fast-tracked into the [REDACTED] Unit. Trained and specialized in ambush tactics, Elyd became proficient at laying in wait for targets, often finding elevated positions to leap down from. Her aptitude for blades did well for her on these missions - a knife finding its way into the slots between Beskar plates significantly easier than a blaster shot. Her fellow soldiers even adopted a nickname for her - Harpy - a lethal assassin from above.
She served the majority of her early adulthood, right up until she was put in charge of her unit to take down a supply convoy. The plan was simple; an ambush as they made their way through a mountain pass. Everything fell through when Elyd made the call to attack too soon, and the mistake cost her dearly. Her unit was slaughtered, and nearly her with it. Her vitals held on despite her grave injuries, which included two broken legs.
When a crew arrived hours later, they found her clinging to a shred of life. She was taken back, and while they set her legs and ensured she could walk again - that was about all the kindness she was offered after her utter failure. One ‘Honorable’ discharge later, she was dropped back off at her homeworld with enough creds on a chip to both last the rest of her miserable life, and to keep her quiet.
They didn’t last, however. Elyd proceeded to blast through those creds in record speed. Drinks, drugs, gambling, company - any vice she could get her hands on. She bled herself dry, and by the time the Galaxy had begun to lick its wounds, she’d made through her ‘reward’ and was left with only enough to buy herself a one-way ticket to… a hopeful fresh start.
