Born: 4013 ABY on Kuar
Race: Human - Kuarian/Mandalorian
Place of Birth: Gargon
Faction Affiliation: Mandalorian - Clan Ara’novor
Previous Affiliations: Mandalorian Crusaders, Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders
Present during the Battle of Kuar. Participated in Great Shadow Crusade (Battle of Foerost, Battle of Coruscant, Battle of the Abron, Thisspias and Contruum Systems, and Battle of Onderon) and, the Mandalorian Wars (Battle of Althir, Cathar, Vanquo, Iridonia, Serroco, Nouane, Dagary Minor, Mandalorian Triumph of Duro, and Dxun)
Born in the years following the Battle of Basilisk, young Thaen Ataa was raised on the planet Kuar in one of their underground cities. When the Mandalorians invaded in 4002 BBY, it was only by hiding in the numerous tunnels of the city that Thaen survived. 11 at the time, Thaen used the maze of complex underground tunnels that acted as the alleys of the city, setting about avenging the occupation of Kuar. But what had seemed simple enough soon proved to be more difficult than the young Kuarian expected. After having successfully killed one of the invaders in a surprise attack, he wounded a second. However, the young boy was no match for fully trained Mandalorians, and he was quickly captured and given a choice: join the Mandalorians, or die a slave.
Seeing as he had no choice, the young Thaen Ataa joined the Mandalorians, and became part of Clan Ara’novor. Taking the new name Jate’kara from the Mando’a language, he settled into life among the Mandalorians and Clan Aranovor. Clan Ara’novor’s primary role among the Mandalorians was maintaining and upgrading the Bes’uliik, and the clan was well known for their skills in repairing the weapons of war, as well as the forging of beskar. The young Jate’kara took well to the teaching of the skills of Ara’novor, as well as the ways of the Mandalorians. By the time of the Duel of Kuar, Jate’kara was well trained in the crafts of Ara’novor and was assigned to be part of the Battle of Foerost. After their successful battle for the shipyards, Jate’kara and Clan Ara’novor spent their time upgrading and repairing the Bes’uliik for the coming attack on Coruscant. After the betrayal of their Sith Masters, and the second trip to Coruscant, Clan Ara’novor saw action Battles for the Abron System, Thisspias System and eventually the Contruum System.
When the time came for the Battle of Onderon, Clan Ara’novor had grown to a moderate sized clan. However, during the battle the Clan saw heavy losses. By the time the search for Mandalore the Indomitable concluded with the rise of Mandalore the Ultimate, the moon of Dxun had dwindled the numbers of the Clan to almost a dozen.
Under Mandalore the Ultimate, great change swept the Mandalorians and Clan Ara’novor was no different. They stayed on the Moon of Dxun and trained to regain their strength. Clan Ara’novor slowly started to grow again. When the Mandalorian Wars began, Jate’kara moved along the front and helped the clan keep the Mandalorian war machine marching ever onward. Clan Ara’novor drew in a large number of the Althiri after their homeworld was captured. These Althiri brought new ideas and understanding of starships which helped Clan Ara’novor grow in prestige and honor.
During the Battle of Cathar and the eventual slaughter of the Cathar species, Jate’kara only saw the aftermath as the Bes’uliik returned from the assault. He heard stories of the near-genocide and they never seemed to sit well with him. The Cathar had made up a high number of the Republic Forces that had resisted them during the Great Shadow Crusade, having inflicted a high number of casualties in the Mandalorian numbers. It was vengeance for this that had prompted the slaughter of their species.
As the war waged on, Jate’kara and Clan Ara’novor continued to fight. Jate’kara saw action in Vanquo and Iridonia, where his clan accepted a number of Iridonian recruits. He would bond with this group and eventually go on to adopt one of their numbers as his son after their parents were killed in the war.
From Iridonia, Clan Ara’novor moved to Serroco and to Nouane, then eventually Dagary Minor. When Mandalore launched the Mandalorian Triumph, Clan Ara’novor was sent with the prong that would eventually capture Duro. In the battle, Clan Ara’novor sustained a high casualty rate. This battle would mark the last major victory of the Mandalorian Triumph. After the capture of Duro, Jate’kara and Clan Ara’novor were reassigned to Dxun to focus on gathering and training new recruits.
When the Jedi and Republic attacked the moon, Clan Ara’novor fought to defend the base. Over the length of the siege, it was said that for every Mandalorian killed, ten Republic soldiers joined them. Regardless, the already diminished Clan Ara’novor took further losses, dwindling their numbers even further. In the last days of the fighting, a pair of Jedi Knights broke through the lines near their supply depot, and Jate’kara was injured in the fight as a Jedi crushed his right arm under a load lifter. The Jedi were dispatched, and Jate’kara was rushed off to seek medical help.
Given his status as non-leadership, he had to make due with what supplies were available. As far as prosthetics, the Mandalorians were running low and the decision was made to salvage his replacement arm from the collected droid scrap. His spine and torso were reinforced to handle the increased weight of the droid arm, once belonging to a BB-22 Salvage Droid. The battle was a relative success, but while he was still recovering from the surgery, Mandalore ordered the retreat from Dxun.
Clan Ara’novor remained together in the auxiliary forces of the Neo-Crusaders. It was for this reason that they were absent for the events of Malachor V, and therefore were spared from the destruction of that battle. After the fall of Mandalore the Ultimate, and the resulting disarming and distruction of the Bes’uliik, the Clan lost its purpose and role amongst the Mandalorians. There were no starships to repair, no armor to patch, and no Bes’uliik to fix. In the years following, the Clan scattered out into the galaxy at large. This dispersment was never in large groups, but a member here, or a couple there. So it happened that Jate’kara, along with his nephew and adopted son, made their way to the colony on Veres looking for work and a purpose in a galaxy that hated their people
