If one were to describe Katya, one could summarize her as a spoiled princess. As the only daughter to the Vohm family, she was given everything her heart desired. The Vohm family in Alderaan dealt in the business of wine, and it proved to be a profitable business. Life in high society was kind to Katya, and she was able to learn from the best teachers, all paid for by her father. She never wanted for anything, and in turn that meant she never had to lift a hand in hard labor, and merely continued to ride on the coat tails of her family name.

But like many things in life, it turned out to be bittersweet. Her father recognized at a young age that his daughter was more special than most, realizing that his only daughter was able to sense the Force. At first he had hoped to try to not bring attention to it, given Katya herself was not aware of it herself. But eventually it was noticed by others and it was not something that could still be swept under the rug.

It would not be ignored once the tiny spark of power was discovered, it desired to be nurtured, to become something more. Katya was a young woman by the time she realized she could be something more than just a rich daughter, and so she felt the need to set out elsewhere in the world. Leaving Alderaan and the riches behind to end up on one of the other planets. She could feel something out there, something she desired, and she would do her best to discover it.

“Katya, focus.”

The words were so familiar to her, they brought her nearly back in time. Instead of the young woman she was now, she was instead a child with twin braids, a missing front tooth, and torn pants. The latter being something she knew her mother would give her a lecture for, but that was for later. For the moment, she was in the dance hall. Her father stood there, and it was obvious they were related due to similar features. He had the same naturally tanned skin, the black hair with greying starting to appear at his temples. The only difference was his eyes were a deep brown, Katya having inherited the color of her own eyes from her mother.

Her father was scolding Katya, a thing he often did. It was a common thing for young girls to have their heads in the cloud, and Katya was no different. He allowed her moments of things he deemed as acceptable activities, and to her delight he was happy to allow her to learn to dance. But it was on his terms, and he was often harsh with his only daughter. He demanded perfection in all she did, and was always quick to point out apparent failures. Failures which were always ever growing. The serious tone from her father’s lips brought Katya back from her daydreams, and she flinched at the harsh glare he gave her.

“Again, Katya. From the beginning.”

She gave her father a quick nod, taking a deep breath as she holds her chin up high, waiting for the music to start anew as she would start the fluid movements of the dance she had been learning. She knew that she would be here for hours with her father, until he felt she had perfected the dance.

“Katya!” The voice was not her father, who was it? She was pulled from her daydreaming, blinking as she looked over with a puzzled expression. A blade was held in each hand, the weight comfortable and familiar to her at this point. She was standing by the lake, enduring another training from her fellow Revanites. Not a child, but a woman.

But it was a dance all the same, and after a moment she took a deep breath to regain her focus, and began anew.

“You cannot seriously be thinking to entertain this silly want of hers.”

“Why not, Vera? You and I both know that it won’t last, given what we’ve discussed.”

Young Katya was inching down the hallway, having heard the voices of her parents as she was left to busy herself for the evening. She had heard her name spoken, and of course curiosity demanded that she sought to learn what just was being said. She crept along the hallway, moving to linger near the partially open door to hear more.

“Koshkin, she wants to learn how to use a sword. She will get hurt doing this. It’s absurd.”
The familiar rumble of laughter from her father was next heard, Katya able to see the shadow of him move closer to the shadow of her mother.

“She will stay interested a week at most, with how she is, Vera. Then she will want something else. And why can’t she have it? She’s my daughter, after all.”

“You spoil her, you know that?”

“As well I should. She is our future here. When she’s old enough, she’ll take my place, and she’ll be happy to do it.”

Katya made a face at the words. For as long as she could remember her father told her what she would do. Why did she care about some silly business? What was fun in that? Nothing, that’s what. A loud sigh drew her attention back to the conversation, the shadow of her mother moving to the other side of the room. Earlier today Katya’s father had taken the young girl to a show. The actors fascinated young Katya. Moving so fast, with such precision, she was entranced the entire time. The entire way home Katya talked her father’s ear off, him finally placating her and telling her that he would look into seeing if he could find a proper teacher that would teach her how to use a blade as they had seen. When Katya told her mother with excitement what her father promised her, it was immediately evident that her mother was not at all pleased.

“She won’t get hurt, Vera. She’ll do this for a month, maybe a little more, and move on to the next thing. She won’t get hurt, I promise you. She’ll be too busy with the business to ever care enough to think about wanting to play around with toy swords.”

Young Katya gave a small huff at that, but too young to realize the full weight of what she was hearing as she turned around and crept back down the hallway.
