Kevin grew up poor raised only by his father who never bothered settling down. The two lived their lives trucking goods in and out of the outer rim. Thanks to his father’s vagabond lifestyle it’s fair to say Kevin grew up on a space barge.
Things were boring but steady most of the time. It wasn’t until well into Kevin’s teen years that outerrim pirates and bandits began causing trouble around trade routes. To keep travel time down and profits up Kevin’s father bought in to the protection of a outlaw organization.
Eventually a rival gang would gain enough power to move in to the trade route Kevin’s father was frequenting. When seeing the barge transported by the outlaw organizations fighters they were attacked on sight. Kevin barely clung to life in the medical bay of a nearby asteroid, his father was not so lucky.
Thanks to life insurance taken out on Kevin’s father and the ship’s own insurance Kevin was granted the credits for the life saving operation he needed to live. Kevin lost his legs and a great deal of flesh including his eyes in the blast, the fire he breathed destroyed much of his respiratory system which all needed to be replaced immediately.
After the incident Kevin was left feeling more machine than man. Having just barely escaped death he wasn’t giving a new appreciation for life instead he clung to how fragile everything can be and decided to keep moving on regardless.
