Letters - Ca Jor

"Dear dad,

It’s been a busy couple of months. I can assure you I’m not dead! In fact I’m doing fine. I’ve been assigned to a new station, which I can’t mention, but I can tell you it’s not to bad here. The commander is good, and the soldiers are dedicated.

I am the only Cathar soldier out here, but that doesn’t matter as much in the military. At the very least, no ones given me any trouble from it. It’s a lot of sitting around and waiting, which isn’t bad. I feel comfortable. I do miss home though. I miss your cooking, but I think I’ve managed to make one of your recipes even better with some of the local ingredients here. The others seem to like it.

How are things with Cyhr and Nalahr? I know Nalahr was eyeing a husband when I left. How did that turn out? Is Cyhr still planning to become a full chef?

When you write back the message will get to me eventually. Don’t worry, I have no plans to die out here.

"Dear Sinee,

It’s been awhile. I guess you’ve been busy. I got through basic with flying colors, even got a little commendation. I’ve also got my first posting. Can’t say where, you know, security rules.

I’ve been thinking about some of the things you said before you went off to the naval academy. I guess you were right on most counts. Shouldn’t be surprised I guess, you always were the brains of the outfit.

I hope you’re doing OK wherever they’ve got you stationed. I guess you’re probably in the fleet somewhere right? Other then the trip to my station I haven’t had much chance to be ship-side.

I’ll be honest, it’s rough here. We’re near the front lines. There’s some weird treaty between us and the Sith because of Czerka, of all people. The Sith kick the shit out of me verbally, and I’m not allowed to knock them around. They think they’re fighting for a good cause. They think they’re right.

There’s also Mando’s all over. I have to resist the urge to hit them or run away.

Sorry, guess I got gripey there. I miss you. I hope your dads doing well. Maybe the next time we both have leave we could meet up for a drink or something? I can make you some Cranker Roots and strips, if we can get the stuff. Stay safe out there.

This time, the message is a holo one. Ca Jor appears in full uniform, smiling

“Hey everyone. I figured I’d make something a little special this time. I got promoted to corporal, and led a squad on an op. It looks like things are going well over here.”

He settles down a bit, looking a little more somber

"Either way, I’ve got more responsibilities now, and that comes with a little more danger. So, whatever happens, I want you all to know we’re not going to lose this thing. We can’t. Not just for all of you but for all of us, right?

I know me joining up was a bit contentious. But things had to change, right? We can’t sit by while bad things happen or…we’re helping them happen.

I love all of you, and I’m planning to come visit soon if I can. Don’t do anything crazy before I get the chance to come home."

He gives a wave and then a salute, a good holo-image for a mantle place.

A separate message, sent through republic command. Ca Jor looks a bit more sedated in this one, but still proud and tall.

"Hey Sinee. I hope you’re doing alright.

So, I know it’s a little soon after that last message, and no, i’m not desperate. Just uh, somethings come up. Obviously, command is going to review this holo. Hi, whoever you are.

Look, you may be out their in the fleet somewhere near where I’m going to be, and if you are, just keep yourself safe. The galaxy needs more heroes right? And you were just as much a heroic type as I was, just more cunning then me."

He runs a hand through his mane, claws briefly out, before sighing

"Look. I don’t regret anything. The opposite. I was just…scared, I guess. I didn’t say the right thing at the right time. In the time we’ve been apart I kind of realized how much I relied on you on a day to day basis. But at the same time, I feel like I’ve grown up a bit. I made corporal, y’know? Led a squad an op that went pretty well.

So I guess what I’m saying is, I’d like to…well, give it all another chance. My family will just have to accept it.

Stay safe out their Sinee. I’ll talk to you soon, I hope."
