Mart Webber: Scorched Sand

Mart looks around a moment as the wind howls over the desert sands, standing over the bodies of several Sith troopers, his armor singed with dozens of Scorch marks, the turquoise paint burned off in several places due to repeated hits. With no other Sith in the area, he turns to head back to Anchorhead to rest and heal

Several hours prior

Mart watches over the desert canyon, keeping an eye on his surroundings as he lays prone with his rifle out, quietly watching for Sith patrols. The ground team had rendezvoused with Nephthyra several minutes ago and there was only radio silence. Then shooting rang out in the distance, and several moments later Tran, River and Iskellia ran through the canyon with Callista, making rapid pace towards Anchorhead. A short time later, several dozen Sith Troopers began to filter into the canyon, hot on their trails. Mart waited a few short seconds as he took aim, lining up the shot perfectly before pulling the trigger and dropping the front Trooper instantly. The remaining troopers immediately ran for cover as Mart picked off a handful more, taking his advantage in the disorganized chaos. He dropped another before they finally located him, opening fire on his position and landing several hits on him, all but one absorbed by his armor as he rolled out of sight.

He repositioned himself and fired several more precise shots, dropping an additional two troopers before being beaten back again by repeated shots, sticking to the ledges and out of sight as he continues to strike against the large force of troopers, slowly dwindling their numbers. Each trooper he dropped brought a chorus of blaster bolts towards him, taking a handle of hits on his side, retreating once again as he quickly bandaged a bolt wound before moving out again, eventually running out of ledge and forced to lower ground to face the remaining troopers. Without the advantage of height and cover, the playing field was far more equal. He did his best to weave in and out of blaster fire as he returned his own in turn, taking several more hits on his armor as he slowly gave ground to the troopers, being beaten back through the sands. He slowly continued to give ground to the troopers, ensuring they were completely pre-occupied with his presence to give the others time to escape, leading them to a canyon with a natural archway overhead and dipping out of sight for just a moment. As the troopers fanned out and tried to find him, he tossed a grenade onto the archway, the explosion enough to cause parts of the arch to collapse onto the troopers, killing several. Taking this new initiative, he pours fire onto the remaining Sith, holding fire only as the handful remaining break ranks and flee, taking a moment to gather himself before continuing on, going back to being overwatch to the remaining ground team, waiting until they are all airlifted out of the area before slowly moving back to Anchorhead, engaging any remaining Sith in the area as he slowly trudges his way through the sands
