((Important OOC disclaimer: this section of her story contains potentially triggering topics. It is a fictional consultation between a psychiatrist and traumatized republic trooper survivor of the Mandalorian Wars, suffering from symptoms of Survivor’s Guilt and worse. Please, if you believe any of this can be potentially triggering to you, do not read. There’s other content to her story to come, and I’ll work to make it all a damn good read! If this story post is also considered potentially too triggering as a whole, I’m absolutely open to deleting it.))

::… SESSION #: 3

::… TRANSCRIPT:

Patient Nasan arrives for the session approximately 12 minutes late. Body language displays heightened anxiety and agitation, including constant shifting from foot to foot and unwillingness, initially, to sit down.

P. NASAN: Heya, Doc. Guess what? I’m here, back for another one. Happy?

Doctor Rahn approaches Patient Nasan, smiling, and attempts to guide through physical contact towards a seat.

S. RAHN: I actually am, Phyra. Happier than you imagine, I think.

P. NASAN: Damn it, Doc. How many times am I gonna have to tell you I don’t want a seat?

S. RAHN: Just for today, Phyra. For me, and I promise we can have our next sessions out in the garden.

P. NASAN: Next? Kriff’s sake. How many more will there be?

Despite protestations, Patient Nasan acquiesced to seat on one of two couches present in Doctor Rahn’s office. Patient showed visible signs of physical relaxation from anxiety.

S. RAHN: As many as needed until I feel you can return to active duty again, Phyra. You know that. I’m not your commanding officer, I’m not even in the Republic chain of command, Phyra. But your C.O. will take my report into account when deciding whether you return.

Doctor Rahnproceeds to retrieve water and glasses for the session, and sits down

P. NASAN: Yeah. You’re like a damn brig officer without the brig.

S. RAHN: No, Phyra. I’m your friend. A friend who wants to see you whole, who wants to see you tall and strong. And I’ll not let a friend get back out there until I feel they can be so again.

P. NASAN: Fine. Just… fine. Alright. I guess I don’t have a choice, do I? That thing though, about you not being in the chain of command. You said you’re… a Jedi or something?

Doctor Rahn snickers involuntarily, after a pause.

S. RAHN: No, no, Phyra. I’m part of the Order’s Corps. We’re not Jedi, but we’re people who work with them to make the Galaxy a better place. I’m in the Medical Corps, assigned here as relief and aid.

P. NASAN: Uh. Yeah. Why not just join the Rep Mil to do that or something?

S. RAHN: Let’s just say I have more faith in the Jedi’s mission and philosophy, and their way of going about things.

P. NASAN: That so? Well, I’m all ears n’ kriffing bursting with curiosity, Doc!

Doctor Rahn lets out a laugh, while the Patient seems to show momentary increase in signs of calm and relaxation.

S. RAHN: Well, are you now? How about we make that a topic for a chat… after today’s session?

Patient Nasan returns to showing heightened states of discomfort, notably fingers repeatedly tapping against the couch and visible facial tension.

P. NASAN: Fine.

S. RAHN: Breathe, Phyra. We’re still in the beginnings of this. We’ll take it slow, and as long as we need until you feel you can open up.

P. Nasan: Doc, I told you. There’s. Nothing. Kriffing. Wrong with me. I’m fine.

S. RAHN: Well, if that’s the case, then you’ll be out of here in no time, hm? All that Command wants is a final report from me. I’ll give them that. But for it, I’ll need your participation. How does that sound?

P. NASAN: You striking a bargain with me or something, Doc? Being a little transparent there.

S. RAHN: Maybe I am, maybe not. I have no reason to be anything but entirely true with you, Phyra. I want your best, and for that, I need to earn your trust.

P. NASAN: … fine. Fine. Fine! Let’s… get on with it all.

S. RAHN: Good. Have yourself some water if you want, I need to fetch something. There’s a subject we need to go over before we start today’s session.

P. NASAN: What? The timer’s not running yet?

S. RAHN: Not yet!

Doctor Rahn stands to fetch a datapad from her desk and return to her couch.

S. RAHN: Phyra, something arrived on my desk yesterday. It appears that you have submitted a transfer request this week. Away from your current assignment on Lieutenant Commander Thraken’s battalion here on Nyrol IX.

P. NASAN: I may have, Doc. What? That’s illegal now?

Doctor Rahn proceeds to stand, after a pause, and walk around the desk.

S. RAHN: Phyra… disregarding entirely the fact that I haven’t cleared you for return to active duty yet. Also disregarding the fact that I’m very worried about your hurry to ‘get this over with’.

The Doctor approaches Patient Nasan and touches her shoulders.

S. RAHN: At the moment, what concerns me is that you specifically requested transfer to [REDACTED]. Are you aware of the current state of that deployment? Casualty rates for [REDACTED] are upwards of [REDACTED] and the Republic is struggling to reinforce their positions before the Mandalorians overwhelm the sector.

P. NASAN: Exactly, Doc! Kriff. It’s not hyperdrive engineering here or something. We all gotta go there, now! I’m cooped up in this damn asylum for no damn reason. I still got my arms and legs, I’m kriffing fine. Just sign me off and let me go! Those troopers there need help!

S. RAHN: Your help, Phyra?

P. NASAN: Sure. Why the kriff not?

S. RAHN: Why yours? Why do you feel so much that you have to?

P. NASAN: Why the kriff not?! You’ve seen what I can do. You know my damn service record! You know I’m not some damn greenhorn. I can go there and I can help. I can keep them from dying! I can save –

Patient Nasan shows increasing levels of distress, including increasing voice pitch, leg spasms and agitated body language, before collecting herself.

Doctor Rahn pauses for little over a full minute.

S. RAHN: Good. Breathe. Why don’t we take a pause here and -

P. NASAN: No! Let’s keep going. You wanted me to play along, this is me playing along!

S. RAHN: That’s not necessary, Phyra. Just like yesterday, we go by –

P. NASAN: I don’t have the kriffing time, Doc! And I’m not going to kriffing waste what I have on this crap. I know what you’re trying to do. But here’s the thing: I’m FINE. There’s nothing wrong with me. I just want to get out of here, and out there!

Patient Nasan launches herself up from the chair. Her body language becomes increasingly aggressive enough that the consultation room’s automatic sensors trigger a silent security alarm. Doctor Rahn remains unmoving, displaying no signs of distress.

S. RAHN: Why, Phyra? Even out there, you don’t fight every day. Even then, you have days of rest –

P. NASAN: I don’t want to rest!

The Patient proceeds to pick one of the water glasses from the table and throw it at the wall. It shatters on impact. Doctor Rahn remains steadily calm.

S. RAHN: Even if you’ve more than earned it, Phyra. Why?

P. NASAN: Because… I… because…

S. RAHN: Breathe. Let the answer out. Let it.

Patient Nasan’s aggressive state dissipates. She stands in silence in front of the doctor, before falling to her knees in loud, audible sobbing.

P. NASAN: Because they’re dead… they’re… all dead.

At this point, two security personnel override the security locks to the office. Doctor Rahn has her arms around Patient Nasan, who has become entirely subdued and silent. The security personnel acknowledge the situation, and summarily comply with Doctor Rahn’s gesture for them to leave the room.

S. RAHN: End recording. This session is over.

::… CONCLUSION AND SESSION NOTES – DR. RAHN, S.:

SESSION 1:

Little progress made today, as expected. Normally, new patients are always taciturn and considerably hard to reach out to in the first few sessions. And that’s for more ‘regular’ cases of battle-induced stress trauma and physical injuries. Patient Nasan’s case is beyond tragic, and runs so much deeper. Patient shows signs of heightened agitation and emotional response. Previous personnel files have made it clear that Patient Nasan already has a normally agitated and highly energetic behavior. However, it’s readily apparent that the Patient’s experiences on what is now called the Battle of Kar’han Pass - more unfortunately and accurately the Slaughter of Kar’han Pass - have exacerbated these tendencies, as a symptom of trauma experienced.

SESSION 2: [ERROR/CORRUPTED DATA]

SESSION 3:

Patient Nasan continues to show deeper signs of Survivor’s Disorder, also known as Survivor’s Guilt. Today, she successfully opened up about the root cause of her trauma: the death of her entire squad and the near-entire decimation of the Fifth Nyrol IX Battalion at the Battle of Kar’han Pass.

Session ended prematurely due to severe patient distress, and she was taken into my personal care for the rest of the day – all other appointments redirected to other doctors.

Conclusion: It is my urgent recommendation that the patient’s request for transfer to [REDACTED] be immediately and categorically denied, as she has demonstrated severe signs towards tendencies of self-destructive and stress-induced behavior, and it is likely that her death in combat is all but assured if she is assigned to [REDACTED]. Furthermore, she is as-yet unfit for return to active duty. She will need more time.

A more detailed report will follow as an addendum to these Session 3 notes.

::… MEMO - LCDR DORIAN THRAKEN

Senia, I’m giving you full reign on this one. No interventions, no demands. What you say, goes. No questions asked. The only condition is this: I want SPC Nasan as… healthy as you can make her.

Yes, I know that’s a tall order. And yes, I know there’s a limit to what you can do. I don’t expect you to solve all her problems and heal all her scars. That’s on her. No matter what, I’ll only clear her when you give me your personal word that she’s ready to walk out of your clinic. She’s been through enough.

I’d give her a discharge with full honors, but I know that would only break her more. So, you do all you can for her, and we’ll do our part when she’s back out here with us.

She’ll pull through. We’ll make sure she does.

– Lt. Commander Dorian Thraken.
