Selene Ishasarr: Finding Purpose

The yellow-white luminescence of the lightfoils cutting though the air bathed the Viscaran plateau in a dim glow as Selene’s feet danced across the dirt, kicking up little plumes of dust as she went. Others might prefer to sit in one place, kneeling or sitting crosslegged, but for her, this dance was her meditation. Years of training had allowed her to commit the movements to muscle memory, making them as easy and as thoughtless as mere breathing, freeing her mind to wander…

Tonight, her mind was on the conversation she’d had with Tara, about the prospect of joining the Order. Though the disparity between the number of hopefuls like her self, and those available to teach them was made clear, she had been given another avenue to pursue in the meantime, finding and working with Zvadras. She had purpose now… something to work toward, and while it would likely involve just as much patience as hard work, it was still a step in the right direction

The conversation with Tara had had a secondary effect as well… Routine though the questions were, likely asked with the intention of checking boxes on a form, they had encouraged her to speak more openly on her past than she had with anyone else since arriving on Viscara. It was… liberating, in a sense, and perhaps it would eventually become something she’d feel more comfortable elaborating on in more casual conversation. Only time would tell…but for now, she had purpose again, and that was enough.

Extinguishing the lightfoils and returning them to her belt, Selene turned her eyes back toward the colony of Veles…toward home, her mind now only on the thought of a shower and falling into bed. That was the other benefit of such an…active meditation…it made it much easier to fall asleep afterward.
