Slicing it up

Locked away on Kairos’s ship, Sentinel sat at the table with Kairos, several computers, datapads and a few slicer kits between them as she sat with a holocron. She had watched the introduction to Slicing several times, mentally memorizing the guidance and tasks, and the very basics of hacking before she looked to Kairos. They could not do anything illegal of course, so Kairos had rigged up a few computers and datapads she could practice on without breaking any laws.

Through the night she worked, taking pointers from Kairos as he guided her through the steps, watching her as she worked and correcting her where needed. Gentle tests and nudges to help her take the correct prompts before she began to get a solid grip on what she was doing. It was still fairly entry level work, but she managed to slice into his computer. Then two of his datapads. Finally he set her on the test. He would not help her with this one.

Taking a deep breath she got to work, slowly hacking in, fighting through firewalls, virus traps, encryptions and more to find the code she was looking for, though it was programmed to move throughout the computer. Locking on for a moment she tried to isolate it only to lose it. Several times she followed it only to lose it at the last moment before finally locking onto it one last time and managing to isolate and contain it. Huffing a bit with pride as she finally stood up she looked outside. The sun had just set when she entered, now it sat risen, it was nearly ten and her duties began in less then thirty minutes.

Thanking Kai she raced out the door, her supplies with him except the Holocron which she hastily returned before a quick shower, fresh robes and liquid breakfast and arriving at her post on time to begin her studies. Bowing her head to the other Temple guards as she took her station without question. More practice would be needed, but she was on her way!
