"ON TURBOLASER ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT"
_
A rather dry piece, written by a Republic Admiral during the Great Sith War. The treatise describes the efficiency of orbital bombardment to reclaim planets lost to the Mandalorian scourge, denoting the damage dealt by their continued occupation of a world with the rather cold terminology of “credit-lives”. The Admiral argues that orbital bombardment, while brutal and destructive, would ultimately cost the Republic fewer credit-lives than a prolonged land campaign against an entrenched enemy.
The author’s opinion was clearly contrary to public opinion, due to his apparent need to address every potential criticism as soon as it would arise, leading to a series of starts and stops that kills all momentum the work could have possibly had. It is, in simplest terms, a slog. Only the most dedicated readers could survive the experience without dying of boredom.
A postface written by Lord Sohma Anantasari details the personal costs of orbital bombardments which cannot be valued, but concludes that the most recent Mandalorian Crusade and the Battle of Malachor V prove the Admiral’s unorthodox proposals to be the most efficient of several impossible choices.
